Swedish Massage

Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body.

This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.

But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage therapy is a treatment oriented therapy which deals with the assessment and treatment of injuries and musculo-skeletal conditions. It involves the treatment of the muscles, fascia (connective tissue), ligaments and tendons which are prone to overuse, overloading, shortening or lengthening and this can produce all kinds of aches, pains and injuries Treatment Modalities

Depending on the pain or injury a number of techniques or treatment modalities may be used during a treatment. Most commonly the techniques will be hands on massage type techniques such as

  • Trigger Point therapy: for alleviation of trigger points
  • Direct Myofascial Release: for improving flexibility and mobility
  • Muscle Energy Technique (MET): is now a common technique used by a number of therapies. Osteopaths designed the technique around 100 years ago. MET is the use of light contractions by the client in very specific directions to alter joint restrictions and range.

Sports Massage

Sports massage was developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. But you don't have to be and athlete to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion

What Happens During Sports Massage?

Sports massage therapists will use a variety of techniques to achieve the desired goal.

There are four types of sports massages:

  1. Pre-Event sports massage -- a short, stimulating massage 15 - 45 minutes before the event. It is directed toward the parts of the body that will be involved in the exertion.
  2. Post-Event sports massage -- given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body's tissues.
  3. Restorative sports massage -- given during training to allow the athlete to train harder and with less injury.
  4. Rehabilitative sports massage -- aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.

Lomi Lomi / Hawaiian Massage

Unlike any other body treatment on earth, the Lomi Lomi Massage is an incredible full body massage in which the entire body is massaged simultaneously in a continuous movement.

Performed for centuries in ancient Hawaiian Temples as a right of passage and renewing ritual, the secrets of the Lomi Lomi are only very slowly being brought to the mainland. Your therapist will use long flowing deep (pressure will be adjusted for your needs) strokes that will run the entire length of your body from head to toe in one continuous motion, working both the upper and under sides of your body. Your therapist’s arms will embrace you as the rhythmic waves of motion send deeply relaxing sensations to your brain.

This incredible treatment is great for relaxation, muscle tension, muscle pain, detoxification, increasing circulation, anxiety, depression and more.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils for health and well-being.

The small molecular size of essential oils allows them to penetrate deep into the body, allowing the healing power to work on an internal level and affecting overall health.

The aromas act on the nervous system during a massage treatment, reducing the tension that is at the root of many conditions. Stress disorders respond profoundly to aromatherapy massage.

A blend is custom blended for the client after a consultation session is carried out.

Chinese Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special your skin for a few minutes to create suction.

People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

During Chinese Cupping, your therapist will put a flammable substance such as alcohol, herbs, or paper in a cup and set it on fire. As the fire goes out, he puts the cup upside down on your skin.

As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for up to 3 minutes.
